Leveraging data science for sustainable autoinjector development

Environmental impact is an area of increasing focus for the pharma and biopharma industries, with companies like Merck, Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline setting ambitious targets for carbon neutrality and laying plans for waste reduction.

The need for sustainable solutions is recognised by both industry and consumers, with many companies reimagining their products and processes to incorporate more eco-friendly materials, minimise waste and improve social impact.

One such company is SHL Medical, a producer of advanced delivery devices such as autoinjectors, who are utilising data science to advance their sustainability goals.

In this week’s episode, CPhI speaks to Frederick Gertz, Manager of Data Science at SHL, and Veluska Bruce, ESG project manager, about the relationship between data and sustainability. They explain how data insights drove the installation of more sustainable manufacturing processes and advocate for the ‘win-win scenarios’ made possible by adopting a data-driven approach.
